CACI Inks Deal to Buy SA Photonics

CACI International has entered into an agreement to buy SA Photonics, Inc., a provider of multidomain photonics technologies for free space optical communications, for a total purchase consideration of $275 million.

“For two decades, CACI has successfully delivered FSO communications to advance evolutionary technology for the protection and exploration of the contested space domain,” said CACI President and CEO John Mengucci.

“Our innovative space-based photonics technology delivers enhanced capability for missions ranging from national security to human spaceflight,” he added. “With SA Photonics, our combined technology enables us to deliver immediate FSO communications across all-domains.”

With the acquisition of Los Gatos, California-based SA Photonics, CACI broadens its capabilities as a U.S.-based FSO laser communications provider supporting space, airborne and terrestrial missions to U.S. government and commercial customers.

Specifically, SA Photonics’ high-volume low-Earth-orbit optical inter satellite links technology complements CACI’s FSO technology optimized for medium-Earth-orbit and geosynchronous-equatorial-orbit orbits. The deal also increases CACI’s development and manufacturing capacity by expanding its modern photonics production facilities in California, Florida and New Jersey.

“It is great to see that the years of hard work to develop and mature a very innovative and highly manufacturable FSO approach to address the high volume needs of space, now and into the future, continues with a great company like CACI,” said SA Photonics CEO Jim Coward.
