Jonathan McDonald
Executive Vice President of U.S. Public Sector, TransUnion
“The pandemic required the government to become more accessible, while applying greater security to programs,” said Jonathan McDonald, who leads public sector at TransUnion. “My biggest recent achievement was reorienting the focus of our business to aiding government agencies through highly effective commercial solutions and services.”
McDonald and his team have improved public-private partnerships, enhanced U.S. national security posture and challenged the marketplace, resulting in faster innovation and lower costs to the government.
Seven years ago, McDonald’s team was small with deep industry experience that would meet at restaurants and hotel conference rooms to brainstorm how it could best take its valuable capabilities to the public sector, McDonald said. Now, the public sector group has over 55 associates, established strategic partnerships with numerous agencies and is one of the fastest-growing businesses at TransUnion.
“I am excited to lead our continued growth and success as we strive to be a go-to partner who makes trust possible for public sector agencies and their constituents,” McDonald added.
In fact, TransUnion President and CEO Chris Cartwright hired McDonald in 2014 when he was president of U.S. markets to build the company’s public sector business unit.
“Prior to Jonathan’s arrival, our interactions with the government were episodic at best; we only interacted when a government customer reached out to us,” Cartwright said. “Under Jonathan’s leadership, TransUnion now has a well-structured business unit focused solely on helping government customers at the federal, state and local levels.”
Why Watch
In 2021-2022, McDonald and his team are focused on employing industry best practices and managing efforts to create customized solutions that address various challenges across defense, intelligence, revenue and tax, social programs, law enforcement and homeland security.
Most recently, the Labor Department awarded TransUnion with a 5-year, $1.2 billion Blanket Purchase Agreement to help state unemployment insurance systems improve identity verification and strengthen fraud detection.
“Unemployment insurance fraud is impacting citizens across the country, and we are proud to be partnering with the Department of Labor to help states modernize their unemployment insurance systems,” McDonald said.
