Jim Brinker
President & General Manager, Intel Federal
Intel Federal has been heavily involved in developing and delivering key technologies for the government, including 5G, artificial intelligence, Exascale, cloud and data analytics.
“This past year has been a challenge working through our programmatic activities in a virtual work environment, but we have been very proud of our team for not missing any milestones while continuing to develop new business with the government,” Brinker said.
The pandemic identified potential exposures in the supply chain for many key items, and access to microelectronics is one of them. In 1990, the U.S. produced 37% of semiconductors in the world. Today, it is down to 12%. Intel has been working very closely with the federal government on increasing the supply and security of U.S.-based microelectronics. This past year, Intel has been working with the Defense Department on prototype programs including RAMP, RAMP-C and SHIP.
Why Watch
Brinker said 2021 and 2022 will be key years for U.S.-based microelectronics. The successful passage of the CHIPS Act will lead to necessary funding for Intel and other companies to develop more manufacturing in the U.S., allowing the nation to rebalance the overall supply chain.
Intel will also continue to work closely with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, DOD and the Energy Department on incubator programs promoting the use of new technologies to address key government missions.
“Our mission statement states that ‘Intel is Creating Technology That Improves The Lives Of Every Person On Earth,'” Brinker said. “I joined Intel five years ago to have the rare opportunity in a career to truly make a difference. I am proud of the work we are doing and of the company I work for.”
