Private equity firm Enlightenment Capital has engaged Jeh Johnson, former homeland security secretary and now a lawyer in private law practice with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP, to provide advice and counsel.

Johnson brings over three decades of experience across public service and private law. His government service includes three Senate-confirmed presidential appointments, most recently as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, where he served from 2013-2017.

Johnson brings 38 years’ experience as a lawyer and “a deep understanding of the risks and challenges facing the nation, areas where our companies are diligently working in support of their clients’ missions,” said Devin Talbott, founder and managing partner of Enlightenment Capital.

“His decades of legal practice, service, and leadership offer a wealth of experience to our team as we work to build best-of-breed national security and mission critical technology companies,” Talbott added.

Before his leadership tenure at DHS, Johnson served as general counsel at the departments of Defense and the Air Force. Earlier in his career, he worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for New York’s southern district.
