Mike Jin ended 2019 as chief information officer of Siemens Government Technologies, setting the table for a great 2020 for an organization on a great path. He then decided to join CNSI pre-COVID, after carefully evaluating his options and starting his new role a few weeks into the lockdown.

The pandemic has thrown everyone off their norm, not just in the technology sector, Jin said.

“The main thing that I am most proud of is that coming into a new role, I was able to execute a full remote work plan during the first few weeks while pivoting the entire operational model, ensuring that the focus was on delivering for our customers, seamlessly providing the solutions necessary to keep our workforce productive and secure,” he added.

Having implemented a remote workforce plans with prior organizations, Jin knew where and what to focus on.

The major initiatives he had planned for 2020 initially homed in on instituting controls, practices and solutions geared to strengthening CNSI’s core systems and solutions. However, Jin quickly realized those priorities had to be shifted to bolster those systems in a secure and user- and customer-friendly ways, but in a decentralized fashion.

The organization completed the migration of Skype for Business to Teams and implemented the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program version of Zoom for Government to better communicate with team members globally while meeting its cybersecurity requirements, Jin said.

“And with the help of our Marketing and Communications team, we conducted multiple rounds of outreach sessions with our team members, including an ’Open Mic with Mike,’” Jin added.

    Why Watch

Jin’s main focus for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021 is to concentrate on solutions his team members need to operate in this decentralized world. That means executing the organization’s “Simplify to Secure” strategy, tightly integrating with all available CNSI data providers to remain compliant with the various compliance requirements while optimizing cost, increasing speed to market and improving security and collaboration with business partners and customers.
