Engineering solutions provider Alion Science and Technology has been awarded a $29 million task order with a 60-month period of performance to provide electromagnetic spectrum technology analysis for Spectrum Supportability and Broadband Support Headquarters for the Department of the Army’s Chief Information Officer Army Spectrum Management Office.

Spectrum access is crucial to the success of the Army’s tactical communication requirements where systems rely on interference-free access to protect against national security threats, said Alan Dietrich, senior vice president and general manager of Alion’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group.

“Alion’s spectrum experts will conduct complex analysis and research to apply technological advancements to strengthen EMS for the Army,” he added.

Alion is to provide engineering research and analysis to define and defend the Army’s need for access to the electromagnetic spectrum to enable the operation of Army capabilities such as the Integrated Tactical Network and Long Range Precision Fires capability.

Additionally, Alion will analyze and research efforts to substantiate the Army’s need to retain economically valuable spectrum for exclusive or primary military use while addressing methods to improve electromagnetic spectrum.
