Since the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Verizon Public Sector team, led by Andrés Irlando, has played an essential role in enabling governments to effectively serve their constituents and achieve their evolving missions for the first half of 2020.
Early in March as the pandemic spread and states began to lock down, Irlando and the Verizon Public Sector team partnered with federal, state and local agencies, school districts and the public safety community to enable key services such as distance learning, telehealth, remote work and citizen engagement solutions such as support for courts, departments of labor, education and more.
Irlando and his team also launched a national distance learning initiative, which has ensured that, to date, 44 million K-12 public school students across 38 states (so far) have reliable internet access to continue their education, whether in a full-time classroom environment, learning from home or some combination thereof. Verizon has entered into anchor agreements with school districts and individual states across the country to ensure every district has easy access to Verizon’s turnkey services, delivered at an affordable price.
