Huntington Ingalls Industries announced Aug. 12 retired Navy Vice Adm. Joseph Tofalo has been appointed as corporate vice president of assessments and advanced technology.
Tofalo most recently served as HII’s corporate VP of program integration and assessment. In his new positiom, Tofalo will help inform national security policy and future force architecture by working with think tanks, professional organizations, federal entities, academia and other third parties.
Additionally, Tofalo will manage HII’s independent research and development program, which works to translate innovative ideas and technologies into operational capabilities. He will continue to report to Mitchell Waldman, the executive vice president of government and customer relations.
Prior to joining HII, Tofalo had a distinguished Navy career as commander of submarine forces and director of undersea warfare.
“We are very pleased to have Joe take on this important and expanded role,” Waldman said. “Since joining the company, Joe has forged strong partnerships with many important institutions and thought leaders on national security issues.”
Waldman also said Tofalo’s experience with naval service and leadership will strengthen the company’s independent R&D program.
