Harrison Smith, chief acquisition officer at the Internal Revenue Service, has won WashingtonExec’s 2020 Chief Officer Award for Government CAO.
In its inaugural year, the Chief Officer Awards luncheon was held June 17 as a virtual live-streamed program to accommodate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations about in-person events. Over 500 people watched as C-suite executives in both industry and government were recognized for their innovation, expertise, impact and thought leadership.
Smith joined the IRS in 2018 as deputy chief procurement officer and became acting chief procurement officer in 2019. In this capacity, he oversees programs and contractual commitments for equipment, supplies and services for IRS and Treasury departmental offices.
Before joining the IRS, Harrison served in various roles at the Department of Homeland Security and Naval Sea Systems Command.
Smith has a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in U.S. foreign policy from American University, an MBA in international business from George Washington University School of Business and an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy school.
