The White House said Hansell is a recognized expert in strategy and serves as Boston Consulting Group’s associate director leading the North American public sector practice.

Hansell previously served as a special assistant to the president for national security affairs where, as the senior director for transnational threats on the National Security Council, he coordinated interagency policy issues to address national security challenges.

Prior to his political career, Hansell served in the U.S. Army. He began his service in the Navy as a surface warfare officer serving in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific and went on to command Special Forces teams in South America and Afghanistan.

Hansell has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal for his service.

Trump also said he will nominate Michael Wynne for the board of visitors to the U.S. Air Force Academy and Steven Poulin for Joint Task Force East director of the Department of Homeland Security.
