Charles Onstott, senior vice president and chief technology officer at Science Applications International Corp., has won WashingtonExec’s 2020 Chief Officer Award for Public Company Chief Technology Officer.

In its inaugural year, the Chief Officer Awards luncheon was held June 17 as a virtual live-streamed program to accommodate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations about in-person events. Over 500 people watched as C-suite executives in both industry and government were recognized for their innovation, expertise, impact and thought leadership.

Onstott has decades of experience in IT and has been with SAIC since 1994. In his current position, he oversees the company’s research and development, strategic alliances and product management capabilities.

Among his achievements, Onstott has changed SAIC’s business unit’s operating model from service to solution-oriented, led the company’s transition to a cloud environment and realigned the organization’s services with client needs, which resulted in a 50% increase in yearly investments.

Onstott says he believes his focus on people is key to his success and is proud of the work he has put into recruiting and developing the next generation of leaders.

“Being able to play a role in helping someone realize their full potential is so rewarding,” he previously told WashingtonExec.
