Want to get active, support children, fight COVID-19 and have fun all at the same time?

Inova Children’s Hospital is inviting supporters to do just that via the 2020 Virtual StarKid 5K and Family Fun Run. The 14th annual event is a virtual experience this year, and participants are encouraged to flex their social media muscles with #StarkidGoesVirtual posts engaging their followers.

Participants may register by May 1 to receive a T-shirt and medal. Organizers suggest setting a fundraising goal of $500 or more per team to go toward the event’s $100,000 goal. Then either use a treadmill, or run or walk a route of your choosing any time between May 16 and May 31.

Registration fees are $15 for ages 4 to 12 and $25 for ages 13 and older.

Fundraising efforts this year will support Inova’s Emergency Preparedness Fund, which is helping in the fight against COVID-19 by providing additional staffing, specialized equipment for patients and other resources.

“We’re grateful for your commitment to healthy children in our community –– that’s what the StarKid 5K is all about,” said James Thompson, pediatric cardiologist and StarKid Founder. “The young patients treated at Inova Children’s are the same ones you see every day in your local community. On behalf of all of Northern Virginia’s children, thank you.”
