Save the Date: CALIBRE Golf Classic, Sept. 16

CALIBRE Systems Inc. will host its 31st annual Golf Classic on Sept. 16 at 1157 Golf Club in Dulles, Virginia.

The event is a fundraiser for Homes for Our Troops, a publicly funded nonprofit that builds and donates homes adapted to suit the needs of severely injured post 9/11 veterans. The Golf Classic was originally scheduled for May 11.

The proceeds from this year’s event will go to retired Marine Cpl. Dan Lasko, who was injured in Afghanistan when his vehicle hit an IED, causing him to lose his left leg below the knee in addition to other injuries. CALIBRE’s goal is to donate $75,000 for the charity, which will go toward supporting Lasko and his family to move from a ranch-style home with many stairs to one designed to be more accessible.

“At times when I can’t wear my prosthetic, I’m either confined to the couch or confined to my bedroom,” Lasko says in a YouTube video for the event. “(Those are) the only places I can really go.”

Tickets for the event are $150 and include free range balls, a goodie bag, green fees, a cart, beverage tickets and a buffet dinner. There are numerous sponsorship opportunities available.

Besides Lasko, many of the veterans HFOT serves are living with amputations, paralysis or severe traumatic brain injury. The specially designed homes help restore some of their freedom and independence and allow them to focus on rebuilding their lives.
