In an effort to expand its position as a global provider of lifecycle nuclear services and technology-enabled solutions, Jacobs has finalized its acquisition of Wood Nuclear, part of U.K.-based John Wood Group.
The transaction has an enterprise value of $325 million, and the combination brings more than 2,000 employees into Jacobs’ business, with plans to recruit 300-400 additional workers over the next year. The deal also expands Jacobs’ U.K. employee base to 11,000, and widens access to specialist talent in locations across Cheshire and Cumbria, U.K., and parts of Europe, Japan, the Middle East, South Africa and the U.S.
As part of the acquisition and expansion, Jacobs plans to invest in the U.K.’s largest independent nuclear research, development and testing facilities at Birchwood Park — which is in the northwest of England — to provide capabilities like remote handling, cyber, inspection technology and test rig facilities.
According to Jacobs Chair and CEO Steve Demetriou, bringing together Wood Nuclear and Jacobs’ Critical Mission Solutions business also creates a powerful platform to support clients’ complex programs, respond to unprecedented changes in the sectors and geographies Jacobs works within, and accelerate Jacobs’ commitments to a more sustainable future.

Going forward, Clive White of Wood Nuclear will lead the new combined business as senior vice president of Critical Mission Solutions – International, reporting to Dawne Hickton, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Critical Mission Solutions.
A joint Jacobs-Wood Nuclear Integration Management Office has also been formed to oversee the integration process, and Jacobs Senior Vice President Pete Lutwyche is charged with the office’s implementation.
