Technology solutions provider Cognosante has won a contract to continue providing development and support services for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Community Care Referrals and Authorizations program.
Worth an estimated $149 million, the award includes a 1-year base with two option years.
Under the new task order, Cognosante will continue implementing VA’s Health Share Referral Manager. It’s an enterprisewide system used by community care staff to generate referrals and authorizations for veterans in the community who are receiving care.
The contract builds on Cognosante’s focus in promoting interoperability and delivering optimized health care solutions to community care providers.
HSRM is vital as it allows VA to transition from a largely manual referral process to a standardized solution that will improve the timeliness of referrals, reduce administrative burden and facilitate communication between facility community care staff and providers.
Steve Schliesman, general manager of Cognosante’s Military and Veterans Health Business unit, said the first steps toward VA’s vision of a “fully integrated commercial health environment” are referrals and authorizations.
“Cognosante is honored to continue its service in support of this critical capability,” he added.
