Memorial services for former CIA executive Daniel Acton were held June 1 at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia.
A Redondo Beach, California, native, Acton and his wife Mary had three children. Acton, 55, passed away after a lengthy illness. He had worked at the CIA for 27 years, including three tours in foreign countries.
During the latter part of his career, Acton served in a number of senior executive positions across the intelligence community. He retired from federal service in December 2014 and became senior vice president for intelligence and strategy at BAE Systems.
According to his obituary, he enjoyed travel, languages, “an ongoing quest for the best strawberry gelato and cherry danish,” jet-skiing with his dog, Trixie, at the Lake Anna family home, and “tackling endless DIY projects, often involving duct tape.”
Acton held an undergraduate degree in economics and an MBA from California State University, Fullerton.
