Get ready for an evening of doing good while looking good: The American Heart Association is once again convening over 500 of the region’s most prominent physicians and corporate, health care and community leaders to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke at its annual black-tie event, the Greater Washington Region Heart Ball.

The gala starts 6:30 p.m. at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in D.C. and is expected to raise $2 million for heart disease and stroke research and advancements. Themed “Hearts of Gold,” the event will feature a performance from “Late Night” host and comedian Seth Meyers.

“As the chairs of the Greater Washington Region Heart Ball, we are making an impact on our community and celebrating the American Heart Association’s work and missions,” said Karen and Dale White, executive vice president of sales and account management for MultiPlan, Inc. “We are thrilled to have Seth Meyers be a part of the 2019 Heart Ball.”

Spearheading the event’s heart disease awareness and fundraising efforts is the Open Your Heart segment, which will feature a local family with a personal connection heart disease.

This year’s Open Your Heart will spotlight local family Paul and Abi Rueger and their 1.5-year-old triplet daughters — Julia, Elisa and Rose. Julia was born with only half a heart and was treated at the Children’s National Medical Center in D.C. Paul and Abi will be sharing their daughter’s story at the event through a video and speech.

The event will also feature live and silent auctions, dinner, dancing and additional speakers, with the official afterparty Heart After Dark, hosted by AHA’s young professionals group Pulse, closing out the night 1 a.m. Auction items include a 7-night stay at St. James’ Club Morgan Bay Beach Resort in St. Lucia, custom-made AHA Nike Air Max 270 shoes and the chance to see a live taping of NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd.

“Thanks to Karen and Dale White along with our dedicated sponsors for their commitment in making the 2019 Heart Ball a success,” said Greater Washington Region AHA Executive Director Soula Antoniou. ”The funds raised go towards cardiovascular research and community efforts to educate the public about heart disease and stroke.”
