1901 Group has teamed with Habitat for Humanity in southern Virginia work on building an affordable duplex for two families.

“We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley as they set out to empower and strengthen their community by building stable homes,” said Dana Pittman, senior vice president of talent strategy and human resources for 1901 Group.

Over 45 employees from 1901 Group’s Blacksburg, Virginia, office took part in the project that began in April in Christiansburg, Virginia. The 1901 Group team devoted over 150 hours working on the project, which included helping build a porch, paint the home’s interior and construct the home’s foundation, the company said.

Pittman added: “The team’s commitment to this project echoes our belief in giving back to our community through opportunities volunteer and contribute to service programs, helping others who need a helping hand. We encourage the contributions our employees make in creating value for our colleagues, customers, and community.”

1901 Group’s compliance specialist, Brittany Hiltonsmith, spearheaded the company’s involvement.

“Habitat for Humanity has always been an organization that moved me with their mission and countless accomplishments – to creating affordable housing across the nation for families,” she said. “It’s been an amazing journey to see the positive impact and memories we have created together. Selecting Habitat for Humanity as our community service initiative allows us the opportunity to truly make a difference to help serve the community and foster the culture of teamwork.”
