When Rob C. Thomas II joined Leidos Health Group in October 2017, he saw the company’s ability to help health care organizations enhance their clinical care, public health and scientific research efforts, while creating efficiencies that reduce costs, as a perfect fit for him. “It is the ninth largest health IT company in the U.S. that focuses on electronic health records management, enterprise IT modernization, interoperability, solutions at scale, population health solutions, software development and systems integration,” he says.
Why Watch
Thomas’ focus at Leidos is to drive health care interoperability by integrating a layer above electronic health records and legacy systems to improve both outcomes and the patient experience. “All commercial health systems we know and work with are wrestling with this issue,” he says. “Across all of health care, longitudinal case management remains elusive.” Implementing such a layer will improve the patient experience in all areas: patient engagement, family member engagement, benefits awareness, population health management, and innovations to support patients such as transportation, secure communications and better access to health care services.
