General Dynamics IT has announced the promotion of a new chief operating officer: Bernie Guerry.

Guerry joined General Dynamics in 2006, after retiring as senior procurement executive for the CIA. He will be responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations and will report to Amy Gilliland, who succeeded S. Daniel Johnson as president of GDIT on Sept. 1.

“Bernie has more than 25 years leading large, complex organizations and has consistently demonstrated strong performance excellence within GDIT,” Gilliland said. “Bernie’s extensive leadership experience and his in-depth understanding of our customers will help drive the company’s continued success.”

Guerry will continue to serve as senior vice president and general manager of GDIT’s intelligence business.

“In conjunction with Amy being named President of the division earlier last month, this is a smart operational buttress for the IT business,” said Mark HuYoung, managing partner at NorthWind Partners. “Bernie’s elevation to COO, while still maintaining his post as head of Intel Solutions, is a logical progression stemming from his contribution to, success within, and intimate understanding of the organization over the past 11 years. He can now apply his more than three decades of experience leading large organizations and national security programs in both industry and government to providing lift across and helping further optimize the overall business, which experienced a challenging first half of 2017.”

Guerry has served on the Office of Management and Budget’s Federal Acquisition Council, and was a member of the Intelligence Community Acquisition Council. Guerry began his career as an active duty Air Force officer.
