Leidos and AT&T have teamed up to help the Defense Information Systems Agency automate virtual private networking services, aiming for more flexible and secure transmission of military data.

DISA awarded a task order to Leidos to help the agency take the first key steps toward transforming the Department of Defense Information Network to a software-defined network, which will support a high degree of automation and synchronization across networking, hosting and related IT systems.

AT&T said the software-defined network will be more flexible, agile and secure, and will help warfighters achieve their missions more effectively.

“Software defined networking is changing how enterprises connect and conduct their business,” said Anthony Robbins, vice president for defense with AT&T Global Public Sector. “We’re proud to work with Leidos to help DISA evolve its network in support of the defense of our great nation.”

Leidos and team member AT&T will engineer and deliver software-defined networking controller technology into the DoDIN backbone. The solution uses an open framework developed by AT&T that supports the automation of network services. It is a critical foundation for a complete software-defined enterprise.

“We’re excited to support DISA in this initial implementation of software-defined networking,” said Daniel Voce, Leidos senior vice president for enterprise cyber and solutions. “The technology has significant promise and this is a good initial step to transforming the DoDIN to be more flexible, secure, dynamic, and resilient for the warfighter.”
