    NASA Names Jeanette Hanna-Ruiz Associate CIO for IT Security

    NASA Chief Information Officer Renee Wynn announced the appointment of Jeanette Hanna-Ruiz as the agency’s associate CIO for IT security and senior agency information security official, effective Aug. 8, 2016.

    Hanna-Ruiz brings to the position more than 20 years of experience working in government, nonprofit and private sector.

    During the first 100 days of the Obama administration, Hanna-Ruiz was selected to work on the White House National Security staff as part of its leadership team to study and write the Cyberspace Policy Review, the endorsed cyber strategy of the U.S.

    She previously served at the Homeland Security Department-National Security Agency Joint Cyber Coordination Group, and at the departments of Transportation and Homeland Security, as well as at Microsoft. She also is professor of the practice – cybersecurity at the University of Maryland.

    Hanna-Ruiz was also requested by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to consult on legislation to improve the nation’s cybersecurity.

    Hanna-Ruiz earned a Bachelor of Arts in politics and history from Oberlin College and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. She was a Presidential Management Fellow and a recipient of the Transportation Department’s Gold Medal for her efforts during Hurricane Katrina.
