The WashingtonExec Millennial Leadership Development Council met earlier in the year at Maggiano’s Restaurant in Tysons II for an evening roundtable with Gil Guarino, CEO of Intuitive.IT, to engage in a conversation about tips for personal development early in one’s career.
With nearly a 50-year successful business career in senior- and executive-level management in government and industry, Guarino shared his insights with the young professionals on how to continuously grow in a career, and lessons he’s learned over the years.
Reflecting back, Guarino can identify four catalysts or mindsets in his career that helped him land new opportunities:
- Always think of your highest boss’ problem
- Go slow: Don’t create too much of a wake
- Do good, better and best until the better is best
- Embrace the concept of discipline or regret
Along with these four catalysts, Guarino recommends to always have the beginning and end in mind when considering career opportunities.
“Envision what you want to do tomorrow,” Guarino says, because taking the time to reflect on one’s career allows for personal development and growth.
Guarino ended the evening with advice to take responsibility for everything you do in life, and that “if you can see it and believe it, you can do it.”
The WashingtonExec Millennial Leadership Development Council is chaired by Andrea Wright, a health IT account manager at AMERICAN SYSTEMS.
