The nonprofit research organization RAND Corporation announced June 6 the appointment of science policy leader Marjory S. Blumenthal as Director of its Science, Technology, and Policy program.

“Marjory Blumenthal is a national leader in forging the nation’s science and technology agenda,” RAND Justice, Infrastructure, and Environment Program Director Anita Chandra said. “We expect she will help broaden RAND’s research portfolio role and attract new talent.”

Blumenthal previously served as Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, where she coordinated policy recommendations in such areas as technology and cities, big data and privacy, private-sector adaptation to climate change, STEM education and advanced manufacturing. She has also been the associate provost at Georgetown University, where she focused on building a science research agenda, and as founding executive director of the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The RAND Science, Technology and Policy program provides research and policy analysis in the areas of space exploration, information and communication technologies, nano- and biotechnologies, citizen science and related areas.

Blumenthal will be located in the RAND Washington office.
