Former acting Director of the CIA Michael Morell spoke to the WashingtonExec Leadership Council last month at an evening roundtable in Tysons Corner on a wide variety of current events. From the fall of Saddam Hussein to the leadership styles of Presidents Bush and Obama, Morell gave an insider’s view on a wide range of topics that are also mentioned in his first book titled The Great War of Our Time: The CIA’s Fight Against Terrorism From Al Qa’ida to ISIS.
“Michael Morell delivered one of the most insightful and information rich discussions on National Security and world events the WashingtonExec Leadership Council has hosted to date,” said President and CEO of MacAulay-Brown, Inc., Sid Fuchs. “His firsthand experience and breadth and depth of knowledge across a wide spectrum of subjects is impressive and incredibly thought provoking.”
For his outstanding service and leadership during his three-decade tenure with the CIA, Morell was awarded the Luminary Award. The WashingtonExec Luminary Award is presented by the WashingtonExec Leadership Council to those who showcase true leadership in the face of tough decisions and/or unpopular opinion. The award recognizes outstanding decision-making, innovative thinking and strong convictions within the broader United States defense community. In the words of Henry A. Kissinger, “A leader does not deserve the name unless he is willing occasionally to stand alone.”
Morell was recently featured in the documentary “The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs” that interviewed all 12 living former Directors of the CIA.
