The WashingtonExec MARCOM Committee hosted an evening roundtable event for about 40 attendees at Maggiano’s in Tysons Corner on April 22, 2015, featuring keynote speaker Carlos Echalar, President of Workforce Advisory Group LLC, on the topic of career development in the marketing and communications fields. Ernstmann Consulting LLC President Talisa Ernstmann co-presented on the topic.
The event was sponsored by Tricia Long of Salient Federal Solutions, a leading provider of information technology and engineering services that include data analytics, agile development, mobility, training, and cyber security solutions to the intelligence, defense, homeland security, and federal civilian markets.
Echalar and Ernstmann led a discussion on how the role of the marketing and communications leader is evolving based on market business and environmental changes. The discussion included how leaders may see the role and value to the business in an evolving and ever-changing industry, along with the impact to the leader, regarding personal and professional effectiveness.
“Today, managing change is like white water rafting in continuous rapids,” Ernstmann said. “They are no smooth spots any more. The biggest mistake managers make in the change process is underestimating the impact it has on people.”
Previous meeting topics for the WashingtonExec MARCOM Committee have included “Rewriting the Marketing Playbook,” “How to Get A Reporters Attention in the Always-On News Cycle” and “Insourcing v. Outsourcing: What’s Best for Your Organization?”.
The next MARCOM event will be held June 17 on the topic of “Engaging with Public Affairs Officials,” with guest speakers from the public sector and sponsored by Matt McQueen of Northrop Grumman Corporation.
