The Embassy of Argentina hosted a pre-Gala reception Dec. 11 for Choral Arts Annual Holiday Concert & Gala Committee members and holders of Gala tickets $1,000 and above.
The reception was held in advance of the Choral Arts Society of Washington’s Annual Holiday Concert & Gala which takes place Monday, Dec. 15 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall with the performance, “In the Glow of Argentina.”
This year’s honorary patron, Argentinan Ambassador Cecilia Nahón, welcomed everybody and shared that the Gala marks the Embassy’s second partnership with Choral Arts; the Embassy also served as honorary patron for Choral Arts’ performance of Tango: Soul and Heart, a celebration of Argentine dance and music last April.
2014 Gala Chair Janet Kelly Phillips thanked Choral Arts Season Sponsors: First Potomac Realty, represented by Nick Smith; Mars, Inc., represented by Ed Hoover; and PE Systems, Inc., represented by Wesley King and Pamela Johnson.
“Janet and her family have been long-time supporters of Choral Arts and have a particular affection for the annual Holiday Concert and Gala,” Choral Arts’ Executive Director Debra L. Kraft said. “Her late husband loved the fact that the Gala kicked-off the holiday season. Janet brings to this event the spirit of family and the holidays.” Both the concert A Capital Christmas and the Gala will also be infused with the culture of Argentina.
Artistic Director Scott Tucker led members of the Choral Arts Chorus in three holiday selections: “Deck the Hall in 7/8,” “Los Reyes Magos” (The Three Wise Men) from Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez’s Nuestra Navidad (Our Nativity), and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year.”
The Embassy’s pre-Gala reception was the last of several pre-Gala receptions, following one at the Old Town Alexandria home of Choral Arts Board member George and Ashley Wilson in September and one on the rooftop of DLA Piper in October.
