Tom Burns, former senior vice president and general manager of Science Applications International Corporation’s (SAIC) Sensors and Phenomenology Operation, will on June 30 step up as president and chief executive of ENSCO, Inc., the company announced Tuesday.
Burns will succeed Greg Young, who is retiring from his role as president and CEO.
Paul Broome, ENSCO’s executive chairman of the board, said he is enthusiastic about the leadership addition.
“[Burns’] innovative, entrepreneurial mindset and wealth of experience in leading and managing technology businesses make him an ideal person to bring ENSCO’s innovative capabilities to critical markets and customers, and to grow the company,” Broome said.
Burns, who touts both industry and federal government experience, took charge at SAIC of a staff of 900 employees and $300 million in system solutions, products business and research and development.
Prior to serving at SAIC, Burns headed his co-founded company Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) Corporation, before SAIC acquired the R&D and product business in 2010.
