Bethesda, Md.-based Digital Management, Inc. (DMI) last week expanded its mobile business and acquired KnowledgePath, a mobile and commerce solutions provider based in Massachusetts.

The union combines DMI’s big data,  enterprise mobility, cybersecurity solutions and mobile app development capabilities with Knowledge Path’s eCommerce expertise — a combination which makes DMI unique in its offering, according to the company press statement released last week.

DMI President and CEO Jay Sunny Bajaj cited a Forrester report to note that mobile commerce is expected to grow by 10 percent to $31 billion by 2016.

“Today, enterprises understand that commerce is multi-channel. ” Bajaj said. “This requires an integrated approach that combines mobile strategy, user experience design, secure mobile and web commerce, big data integration to drive personalization, and secure management for devices, apps and data.”

KnowledgePath’s repertoire touts front-end commerce with back-end financials, in-store mobile solutions, warehouse management systems, mobile enabled eCommerce, inventory and ERP systems.

Marc Irish, KnowledgePath’s CEO, said the growing demand for mobile commerce solutions in the government contracting industry makes the KnowledgePath and DMI acquisition all the more valuable.

“In the industries we serve, there is growing demand for mobile commerce solutions that create an optimal shopping experience for consumers while driving operational efficiencies.  For this reason, joining DMI is a very exciting step for our company and an opportunity to meet the demand head-on,” Irish said. “DMI has assembled a truly unique set of capabilities and solutions that effectively address every aspect of enterprise mobility.  We couldn’t be happier to be a part of this winning team.”

DMI did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition in its press statement, but a CNN Money report estimates the union was completed for $22 million.
