TechAmerica, headquartered in Washington, D.C., has appointed AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ Chief Operating Officer Peter Smith to its Public Sector Board of Directors, according to an announcement this week.

TechAmerica is comprised of member technology companies that create products and provide services in the private sector and to governments at the state and national level.

“TechAmerica plays a critical role advancing the federal IT community,” said AMERICAN SYSTEMS Chief Operating Officer Peter Smith. “At AMERICAN SYSTEMS, we are committed to meeting agency missions, and I am honored to have the opportunity to further this goal as a member of the TechAmerica Public Sector Board of Directors.”

As a board member, Smith will help guide the TechAmerica Public Sector team to provide critical tech expertise for the government IT community.

The TechAmerica Public Sector team facilitates the exchange of IT knowledge and the development of relationships between industry and government. Smith will support these functions through the expertise and commitment to federal government missions he brings from nearly 35 years serving the community at AMERICAN SYSTEMS — a professional, technical and IT services provider based in Chantilly.

“Through technology, the federal government provides critical services to our nation’s citizens, and agencies depend largely on industry to stay on the cutting edge of innovation,” said Mike Hettinger, senior vice president of TechAmerica’s Public Sector and Government Affairs. “TechAmerica is dedicated to this purpose as it brings together the brightest minds in the IT community and supports valuable relationships between government and industry. Peter brings decades of experience supporting our government IT community, and I am looking forward to the insights he will offer as a member of our board.”

Smith began his career at AMERICAN SYSTEMS nearly 35 years ago as a test engineer. Prior to his current role as chief operating officer, Smith served as executive vice president of operations for the company, overseeing a wide range of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ offerings including design and installation, human capital and managed services, custom solutions and professional services.
