The Northern Virginia Family Service will present the 2014 Road to Independence Gala on May 9 at the Hilton McLean in Tysons Corner. The gala acknowledges generous donors and supporters dedicated to giving back to the community. Those recognized at the event include a community champion and a Legends of Northern Virginia honoree.Lauren Peterson, principal of The Peterson Companies, former NVFS board member and longstanding advocate of Inova Health System’s Life with Cancer program will be honored as NVFS’ Community Champion.

    • And Sid Dewberry, chairman emeritus of Dewberry and one of Northern       Virginia’s visionaries, will be honored with NVFS’s Legends of Northern      Virginia Award.

About 600 business and community leaders are expected to attend the event, which will feature live and silent auctions. The night’s gala chair, AMERICAN SYSTEMS CEO Bill Hoover, supports the event at the Grand Benefactor Level of $25,000.

“Many of us are blessed with good jobs and safe places to live, but some of our neighbors in the Northern Virginia community struggle each day to make ends meet,” Hoover said. “NVFS helps build a brighter tomorrow for these individuals, but sponsor support is vital to continuing NVFS’ programs, particularly for a local economy that is being impacted by reduced federal spending.”

The event will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, dinner and a short program.

The Northern Virginia Family Service is a private, nonprofit community service organization that is dedicated to helping families become find ways to become self-reliant and lead better lives. The organization helps 36,000 people every year through a multitude of programs which include early childhood services, child placement services, health services, legal services, housing services, intervention and prevention services, and workforce development services.

More than 40 local businesses have already committed their support to the gala. Corporate sponsorships starting at $1,000 are still available and in-kind donations from local partners also contribute to the success of the event. Individual tickets are on sale for $250. Both can be purchased online at nvfs.org/gala or by contacting Development Manager Christine Libonati at (571) 748-2535.
