Capgemini Government Solutions is hosting its first Thought Leadership Series: Engaging the Digital Citizen, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 1201 Maryland Avenue SW, Suite 150 in Washington, D.C. The event will explore the global leading practices on the capabilities of digital services in government. Douglas Charles, President and CEO of Capgemini Government Solutions, is scheduled to speak at the event and will discuss the reasons why citizens should consider using eGovernment services, as well as reveal its benefits. He went on to explain the purpose of this event.

“So many people are internet savvy these days, yet large numbers of citizens across the world don’t use eGovernment services. Citizens prefer banks, for instance, to government; and when it comes to end-to-end e-services, the private sector far out-achieves government,” said Charles. “Our research suggests that 54 percent of people fully able to use the internet are not comfortable with using it for eGov services. They are, instead, wedded to traditional channels for their contact with government services. While a growing number of these citizens indicate a desire to shift to online channels, there remains a significant proportion of overall internet users (38 percent) unwilling to use eGov services, so-called ‘non-believers’.”

He continued, “So what can be done to turn non-believers into eGov believers? How do you design eGov services from the perspective of the customer rather than from that of the public administration? How do you design services around the life events or life stages of a customer rather than as an administration-centric transactional service? With the current focus on ‘Digital by Default’ around the world, we will showcase the results of Capgemini’s global eGovernment Benchmark study.”

Charles said the study will provide “valuable insight into leading practices from numerous different countries on designing user-centric services as well as achieving efficiency benefits from the key IT enablers to support those services.”
