Software AG Government Solutions announced today it has garnered the first prize award at the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) Western Conference PlugFest competition in San Diego for Humanitarian Relief  technology. Teams were asked to build technology in multiple Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) scenarios. The company’s winning demo involved a scenario in which several dirty bombs were detonated in a major metropolitan city.

The firm won for its application that gathers data from multiple sources and providers and applies modeling and simulation techniques to find, track, and predict movement and toxicity of radioactive and hazardous toxic plumes. One demonstration showed real-time alerts and complex event processing to predict and detect a plum’s proximity to sensitive areas such as the Red Cross shelters where people would be gathered seeking safety.

“We are always excited to participate in an event that centers on proving the viability of technology in addressing life-saving scenarios,” said Tod Weber, CEO of Software AG Government Solutions. “In a PlugFest type of environment, where you are only given a matter of hours to build and demonstrate a solution, you get to see which technologies are robust enough to really have an impact on efficiency and effectiveness. This environment provided us with a perfect opportunity to apply our ‘special forces’ approach and truly differentiate our people and our technology. We are proud to receive this award and hope that our demonstration offers interested organizations a high level of confidence in our capabilities.”

The PlugFest mission is to create a vehicle for demonstrating the value of industry, academia, and government collaboration to solve government problems using an approach called Rapid Integration Innovation Process (RI2P).
