Raytheon Company’s MathMovesU program is inviting community members to recognize inspirational math teachers and coaches with a MathMovesU Math Hero Award. This is one of several recognitions set to honor k-12 teachers across the country for their commitment to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education with scholarships and grants.

MathMovesU will honor 32 math professionals with awards of $2,500 each, along with a matching grant of $2,500 to each of their schools. Nominations will be open through May 15, 2013, and this year’s application cycle is also open for the Raytheon-Engineering is Elementary® (EiE) Teacher Scholarship Program. Engineering is Elementary, a professional development program that helps elementary school educators bring engineering to life in the classroom, will give awards of $3,000 each to selected elementary school teachers nationwide.

Submissions will also be accepted through Friday, February 8th for Raytheon’s MathMovesU program’s Middle School Scholarship and Grant Program. Sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students nationwide must demonstrate an enthusiasm for math and illustrate its importance in space exploration with the question, “Mission to Mars: How does MATH drive your curiosity?”

STEM “camperships” of up to $1,000, or college scholarships of $1,000 will be given to up to 150 students, and their schools will receive matching grants of $1,000 for math-related programs.
