WashingtonExec 2013 Government Contracting Outlook Series:
The new year brings big changes for the Federal IT industry, and WashingtonExec is back with its Government Contracting Industry Outlook Series.
We are giving local executives the opportunity to share their thoughts on where they see our industry headed this year and beyond. Leaders were asked a series of questions focused on cloud computing, healthcare IT, defense, mobility, and more.
Becky Smith is Principal at SoundWay Consulting Inc., and spoke with us about what she thinks lies ahead for 2013:
“I believe that 2013 offers unprecedented industry/government collaboration potential for the Intelligence Community, particularly in the Big Data arena. The Intelligence Community Information Technology Environment (IC ITE) Commercial Cloud represents a new paradigm in industry collaboration as the cloud instantiation will be “outsourced” to a commercial provider. Most of the focus of this Commercial Cloud will be providing Big Data solutions and analytics.
Additionally, 2013 will be a big year for the IC ITE Government Cloud. While 2012 was devoted to establishing the IC Government Cloud infrastructure, in 2013 the emphasis will be on showing mission relevance of the Government Cloud. Big Data solutions that can support the IC mission will be key to realizing the value of the Government Cloud. Finally, IC ITE will need to collaborate closely with industry to institute a strategy for IC ITE enterprise licensing.
Particularly in these times of tightened resources, industry contribution to this strategy will be vital in ensuring the enterprise license way ahead is viable and equitable. While these comments are in reference to the Intelligence Community, other agencies will have similar pressure to demonstrate the value of Big Data and Cloud. Collaboration with industry will be instrumental to achieving the benefits offered by these new technologies. Thus, 2013 provides new opportunities for Industry Big Data providers to form collaborative government partnerships.”
