Deloitte raised more than $1 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) through the Corporate Team in Training program, becoming the first ever organization to reach such a goal.
With the mission of LLS to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Nearly 400 Deloitte employees have completed the Training program since 2009 to raise awareness and change the lives of the more than one million Americans affected with the blood cancer.
With this program, participating employees have been able to achieve their goal of finishing a marathon, half marathon, century ride or triathlon to support blood cancer patients. Chris Fenton, Vice President of Team in Training, expressed his gratitude for Deloitte’s work with the program.
“Deloitte has been at the forefront of the Corporate Team In Training program, and as a result is the first organization to break the $1 million mark,” said Fenton. “They’ve run, biked, and swam countless miles, and we are incredibly thankful for their support of our mission.”
Robin Lineberger, CEO of Federal Services, will be receiving the award on behalf of Deloitte, the CEO of Deloitte Federal Government Services, Deloitte Consulting LLP at The Nation’s Triathlon Inspiration Dinner.
The Team in Training program, since its inception 24 years ago, has trained more than 520,000 individuals to complete a marathon, half marathon, century ride, triathlon or hike adventure. It is the nation’s largest and most successful sports training program for charity and has raised $1.32 billion collectively for LLS’s mission.
Lineberger, a member of the 2010 Team In Training program and the National Capital Area Chapter’s Leukemia Ball Chair in 2012, spoke of Deloitte’s work with LLS.
“At Deloitte, we are honored to work with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise awareness for this important cause,” said Lineberger. “Through the Team In Training program and other fundraising activities, the National Capital Area Chapter works tirelessly to provide invaluable funding for cancer research and patient services. Deloitte is proud to support LLS, and we hope to continue the fight to help save lives for years to come.”
Dr. James H. Davis, LLS National Board Member and current Leukemia Ball Chair, will be presenting Deloitte with the award on behalf of LLS, which will be held September 8th at the Washington Hilton.
