As government agencies modernize and move toward cloud computing, Jim Sweeney, chief technology officer of GTSI Corp., has some practical ideas on best practices for federal clients interested in making the transition.
In his new book, Get Your Head in the Cloud: Unlocking the Mystery for Public Sector, Sweeney addresses some of the concerns surrounding cloud computing and provides case studies that thought leaders can use to plan their switch to the cloud.
“The purpose of writing this book was two-fold,” said Sweeney. “First, I wanted to explain the various cloud types and address all the myths that are currently floating around about cloud environments. How secure is my data? What are the acquisition and budget implications? Who owns the information?
Second, I wanted to provide a single resource of public sector case studies to better enable government decision-making in regards to their adoption of cloud capabilities. I thank all of the individuals and organizations that served as sources for the book, and believe that the book offers clarity into the world of the cloud.”
Sweeney based his book on interviews with cloud users at the local, state and federal levels. Drawing from their experiences, he looked at issues such as crowdsourcing and updating the financial management system.
Proceeds from the book will go to the Wounded Warrior Project, to assist injured service members as they transition to civilian life. It is available in paperback on Lulu, Amazon and Barnes & Noble for $39.95, and as an eBook for $8.95.
