The Nysmith School, with over 600 students in pre-school-8th grade, scored in the top 1% on IOWA tests in every category.  The school, established in 1983, has been named ‘Best Private School K-8” by readers of Washington Families Magazine and one of the “Top 10” schools in Virginia by Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

Ken Nysmith, Principal says, “When I walk with visitors through the school, they are struck by how much fun the children are having, yet at the same time, they are amazed how advanced the concept is that the children are working.  At the Nysmith School, we work hard to teach each child to their potential, to make school fun and stimulating.  You can have advanced academics without pressure.”

The Nysmith School spends about one week preparing for the standardized test, choosing to focus on the creative development of its students.
