Aneesh Chopra announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination for Virginia Lieutenant Governor. Chopra served as the first United States Federal Chief Technology Officer (CTO) under President Obama and Virginia’s Secretary of Technology under Governor Tim Kaine. After leaving his position as Federal CTO in January, Chopra joined The Advisory Council as Senior Advisor of Healthcare Technology Strategy.
No other Democrats have entered the race yet, but several Republicans have announced bids including Corey A. Stewart (Prince William Board Chairman), Sen. Stephen H. Martin (Chesterfield) and Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter (Prince William).
The election will take place in 2013.
