Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced last week that it is launching a program to hire 1,500 military veterans in 2012. SAIC’s program is associated with the White House’s armed forces initiative Joining Forces, which looks to serve America’s military families.
“While we understand the challenges of veteran employment, we also see the immense value they offer to the workforce,” said Brian Keenan, SAIC executive vice president for human resources. “SAIC’s program to hire 1,500 veterans is a natural continuation of our commitment to serving the interests of military members and their families, and we’re proud to support the Joining Forces initiative.”
Spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden and led by the Center for New American Security (CNAS), Joining Forces mobilizes all sectors of society through a comprehensive national initiative to give U.S. service members, veterans and their families the opportunities and support they have earned. Through a broad range of ongoing projects and programs, CNAS hopes to make a lasting contribution to the way America cares for its veterans, military service members and their families.
SAIC has been a long-time supporter of military veterans. The company currently employs more than 10,000 military veterans and is a member of several military consortiums working together to assist transitioning warriors and veterans into professional work environments, offering training and assistance on interview and resume preparation, networking workshops, and employment preparation.
SAIC has an active Military Alliance Group (MAG), with a mission of serving as an advocate and resource for former military service personnel employees and active duty personnel and their families. As a result, SAIC was ranked No. 24 on G.I. Jobs Magazine’s Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list.
