“Take Calculated Risks” -Sid Fuchs’ Advice To His Children

    WashingtonExec Series:

WashingtonExec asked the simple question to top area executives:

“If you could give your kids only three pieces of advice, what would they be?”

Today’s critical advice is from Sid Fuchs, CEO of MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB).

    1.  Take calculated risks. Playing it safe all the time isn’t what life’s supposed to be about. Make choices that give you more choices and never be afraid to fail at something. Put yourself out there and go after your dreams.  Never let anyone hold you back for the wrong reasons.

    2.  Recognize that you are building your personal portfolio all the time. Integrity, trust, loyalty, benevolence, ethics, and honesty must be the hallmark of who you are. Avoid those who don’t share your values and recognize them for who and what they are.  Give back more than you take.

    3. Make and live by your own decisions. Listen to those around you, but in the end, you must decide the path forward and stand by your decisions.  Don’t sweat the small stuff and learn to recognize what is a critical decision and what is trivial.

Bonus number 4.  Leave the world better than how you found it.
