SAIC announced yesterday that it was awarded the DoD Nunn-Perry Award for mentor-protégé excellence. SAIC received the award in recognition for its exemplary efforts in mentoring the Vector Planning & Services Inc. (VPSI). The San Diego, California based VPSI is a small disadvantaged business (SDB) specializing in systems engineering, information technology, information assurance and network services.
SAIC assisted the company in attaining both the International Standards Organization (ISO) 20000 and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3 certifications. As a result, VPSI became a viable provider of technical expertise in the areas of Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) and information assurance to DoD and the warfighter. It also experienced a 117 percent growth in revenues, with annual revenues currently in excess of $42 million.
“We understand the value of establishing mentor-protégé relationships and the value they can bring to all parties, including the DoD,” said Rick Reynolds, SAIC senior vice president and deputy business unit general manager. “SAIC is deeply honored and grateful to be recognized for our efforts under this agreement.”
Named in honor of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, the award recognizes outstanding mentor-protégé teams formed under the auspices of the DoD Mentor-Protégé program.
