Last week, CISCO announced its Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2011 – 2016. According to the study, total mobile data traffic around the world will increase to 10.8 exabytes per month, 13 exabytes by 2016.

The study attributes the sharp increase due to projected surges in mobile internet users (the world population is projected to be at 7.3 billion by 2016). CISCO also forecasts that mobile data traffic will outweigh fixed worldwide data traffic by three times between 2011 and 2016.

For more information about the study’s findings, read the extensive press release here.
