Recently, SRA International, Inc announced that it won the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) Fifth Generation contract on behalf of the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Under this contract, SRA will provide services to operate the NPDB-HIPD. The contract is valued at $78.5 million over five years, if all options are exercised.

The Data Bank, consisting of the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB), is a confidential information clearinghouse established by Congress to improve health care quality, protect the public, and reduce health care fraud and abuse in the U.S.

SRA’s Senior VP Paul Nedzbala said, “We are proud of the confidence that HRSA has shown in SRA over the past 17 years, and look forward to continuing our work together to ensure that timely, accurate information on health care practitioners is available and affordable.”

The NPDB and HIPDB encourage the identification and the prevention of medical malpractice and healthcare fraud across the U.S. by providing information sharing between reporting agencies, individual practitioners, and hospitals, health plans, and other healthcare organizations. Since 1994, SRA has contracted with HHS-HRSA to provide total lifecycle support of the operations, maintenance, and enhancement of NPDB-HIPDB.
