Today, The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) announced the appointment of Kimberly Weir as Deputy Executive Director.

Weir joins the senior leadership team of MAVA in a newly created position which will significantly expand the strategic outreach and program development of the organization. In this new role, Ms. Weir will be responsible for developing new strategic partnerships, engaging with targeted corporate partners and designing high-impact programs to serve MAVA members and company-builders.

Prior to MAVA, Weir launched and managed a business development firm, Starting Gate Global where she worked closely with MAVA in early 2011. Prior to launching her own firm, Ms. Weir spent 7 years developing and implementing new programs and marketing initiatives for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, International Division, including her creation and leadership of the nationally recognized, innovative export-promotion VALET (Virginia Leaders in Export Trade).

MAVA’s executive director Julia Spicer said, “Kim brings infectious enthusiasm and an unrivaled level of energy to our organization. MAVA has benefitted from Kim’s contribution to our work in key initiatives such as Capital Connection and the launch of TechBuzz, and we are delighted to bring her onboard as our Deputy Executive Director.”

Ms. Weir received her M.B.A. from the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary in 2005 after completing her Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from the University of Virginia in 1991.
