Yesterday KoolSpan, Inc., a mobile security solutions provider, announced that it has acquired the SRA International secure mobile applications suite and engineering team. KoolSpan now owns all core components of the hardware-based TrustChip(R) solution that protects voice and text communications from security threats.

“SRA and KoolSpan have worked together over the last several years to develop the next generation of secure mobile applications,” said Gregg Smith, CEO of KoolSpan. “This acquisition will allow KoolSpan to own the technology behind the security solution for the two most fundamental mobile applications — voice and text. For our customers and partners we now can market a turnkey FIPS-140-2 compliant mobile solution.”

TrustChip is a hardware-based chip that slides into smart phones and makes the hacking of voice calls and text messages almost impossible.

SRA integrated KoolSpan’s TrustChip to develop the One Vault Voice(TM) (OVV) and One Vault Messenger(R) (OVM) technology. OVV and OVM, secure voice and text message applications, are now available for the Blackberry(R) and Android(R) devices. The iPhone(R) application is scheduled for 2012.

“We are convinced that KoolSpan will continue to develop the industry leading features that have established OVV and OVM as market leaders and will accelerate their adoption on a global scale,” said Pat Burke, SRA International Senior Vice President.

SRA remains a reseller of all KoolSpan products. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
