OFS, a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of advanced fiber optic network products, and the Inter-County Broadband Network (ICBN) announced in a press release in Howard County, Md. the launch of construction of a new ICBN Logistics Operation Center.

ICBN is a collective, inter-governmental group, made up of 10 central Maryland jurisdictions to use high-speed fiber optic cable to join 715 anchor institutions, including hundreds of public schools, community colleges and other government institutions.

“Together, OFS and the ICBN will bring affordable, accessible broadband to central Maryland and beyond-an investment in the state of Maryland’s economic future,” said Ira Levy, Howard County Chief Information Officer and Chair of the ICBN Governance Committee.

The project will include laying 1,300 miles of new fiber and produce annual government savings of $28 million per year through reduced equipment costs, strengthening of call centers and greater admittance to efficiency-producing technologies.
